Northern Metalic Lubricants is the newest division under the Side Group Umbrella but that doesn’t mean that long-standing relationships aren’t still the heart of our business. Relationships that go back to the time Northern Metalic first opened in 1954. We believe by ensuring continuity between our customers and our sales team, we are able to develop a greater understanding of each clients needs – to provide the best customer service and solutions possible.

These regions are actively involved in the development of natural resources, which fuels the need for the quality products to ensure equipment integrity and reliability in challenging environments.
Side Group of Companies
Northern Metalic Lubricants is one arm of the larger group of companies under the Side Group Brand which includes Northern Metalic (1954), Visa Truck Rentals (1971), Baron Oilfield Supply (1986) and Devco Developments (1997). Together they provide direct employment for over 400 people.
Northern Metalic (1954)
Northern Metalic (1954 was the original company that has launched the Side Group. Head office is based out of Grande Prairie and has locations throughout Alberta and Northern British Columbia. Specializing in Industrial Supply along with Hose and Rigging. The newest facility in Clairmont, AB is the production home of wire ropes, host, and rigging. All stores provide a retails component for daily equipment, tools, and supplies.
Baron Oilfield Supply
Baron Oilfield Supply is among a handful of privately held, independent oilfield supply stores in North America. Baron began as a start-up, incubated within Northern Metalic.
The company presently has 18 operating locations dedicated to providing specialized supplies as well as industrial hardware to the oil and gas sector. Pumpjack sales an service, valves, fitting, pipe, tubing, flanges – pipeline, production and industrial. Baron Oilfield Supply has always placed great value on meeting the unique needs of each customer and as a result, has earned the loyalty of its customers and employees alike.
Visa Truck Rentals
Visa Truck Rentals was established within Northern Metalic to fulfill a demand that was being overlooked by the larger national companies. Northern Metalic’s customers needed trucks! Today, Visa Truck Rentals rents, leases, and sells vehicles with a focus on localized customer service. Visa’s fleet is primarily made up of light-duty vehicles and they are experts in project rentals and short-term leasing. Financing is also a part of the Visa Truck Rental business practice.
Devco Developments is the land development division of Northern Metalic. Devco is has been the developer and contractor for several of the Side Group buildings including the Visa Trucks Rental building and the newly finished Clairmont Northern Metalic store. It is also the developer of several commercial projects and a prominent rural residential subdivision in Grande Prairie.
In 1997 Side Group Rail was formed to fulfill a need by CN Rail to service Ainsworth Lumber Company in moving their OSB product to markets. Since that time, the company’s client list has grown and diversified as have operations -to six separate multi-user facilities moving a multitude of products from rock and sand, grains, and fertilizers, to glycols and wind turbines. Side Group Rail’s current facilities in the region include; Rycroft Reload #1 and #2, GP Reload, GP Regional Logistics Park(GPRLPP), Wembley Alberta – Engineering Stage, Gold Creek – Under Construction, and Big Mountain.
